In 2019, California became the first state to pass The CROWN Act. The law officially made discrimination based on hairstyles and hair textures illegal. This essentially put an end to people being fired or reprimanded because of their hair. The CROWN Act was a reprieve for black people who have not always felt comfortable wearing their natural hair in the workplace.
